FantasticFest is the Austin, Texas film festival Variety calls “the geek Telluride.” The festival screens the latest fantasy, horror, scifi, and just plain weird movies.
This year’s standout moment was a secret screening of Cloud Atlas, the film version of David Mitchell ‘s award-winning 2004 novel. The festival also featured an interview with the Wachowskis, who directed the film (co-directed by Tom Tykwer). You may recall that the Wachowskis also directed the Matrix movies and V For Vendetta. Tykwer directed the superb Run, Lola, Run.
